It will be a busy weekend but I still will be thinking of you guys and envying those of you at quilt retreat. I keep telling myself I'm going to get back for one but life keeps interfering.<br />My next task, well actually I have two, is preparing to teach a class on the French Rose pattern to guild here and secondly to make a wedding quilt for my son and his fiance. That will have to be finished by mid June.<br /> Mexican.&quot;<span style="color:red;background-color:#fcc;">  That</span><span style="font-weight:bold;color:green;background-color:#cfc;"> That</span> was a fun one. I started out with simply using fabric with a Mexican theme then moved to suggesting traditional quilt blocks that are Mexican. I was surprised at how many I could find. Then we started to get more creative. I gave them log cabin blocks as asked them how to make it Mexican. My idea was to use pastel colores because many of the housed are cement painted in these colores. I made the centers black because all the houses have water storage on the rooftops in black barrels. finally we looked at all the Mexican designs in pyramids, tiles, rugs et]]></description>

Finished at last! This is the quilt I have been working on for the past 4 months for the Concurso de Bernina here in Mexico. Only requirement is thst quilts be between 1-2 yards square and have a Mexico theme. This one was a challenge for me for many reasons. First challenge was figuring out what I could make with fabric I have. That in part determined the color scheme. Only fabric I had to purchase was the Spice Shade Cascade for the doors. I used two of the wolors for the front and two for the back.<br />The two layer concept took a bit of thinking and I changed designs several times in trying to figure out how to attach doors so all layers would look nice (scratch the velcro), the doors would be removable (scratch sewing them into seam). finally arrived at bottons -- all 42 of them and almost as many buttonholes. Had a bit of a glitch when I lost the manual to my sewing machine and couldn't figure out how to make the buttonholes.
